"Luna", Jacaranda Burl
"Luna", Jacaranda Burl, 10 x 12 x 9 inches
Didn't look too promising, All the roots were intertwined with each other making up this piece. The trick is to carve the piece without carving the wrong root section out which could result in this piece of wood to break into a lot of small pieces. The grain is AMAZING. Purely a sculpture to show off the grain. This piece has lots of presence and positive vibes.
"The Feeling of Movement, Hau"
Sometimes you get lucky. The last time i found a rare Hawaiian Hau burl was 26 years ago. A friend told me that he had some Jacaranda logs in his green waste pile. Not my favorite wood, but its always best to check out the wood when someone's calls you. I took a small piece of Jacaranda and noticed a couple of small logs that looked different. Burl wood at that. It was from a Hau tree. Just enough to make one vessel. A lovey and rare piece for your collection.
